From July 17-18, 2024, MCBO and NAR held roundtable discussions in Cyanika Sector and Burera District, involving 42 participants from diverse groups including local leaders, youth, women, and CSOs. The discussions emphasized the prevalence of human trafficking in the district and examined its causes and impacts. Participants learned about existing laws, shared real-life cases of trafficking, and discussed the roles of various institutions, including police, RIB, and religious and educational bodies, in combating trafficking. Attendees resolved to engage in awareness campaigns, particularly targeting vulnerable groups like youth, women, and the transport sector, and to hold further discussions and training sessions across the district. Challenges included time management due to road closures, but participants committed to implementing solutions promptly. The event increased understanding of trafficking and inspired action to combat it.
